WHO AM I?

UV, 2023

This project focuses on gender identity in relation to historical and social stigma, where queer and non-binary identities were once considered medical or psychological conditions, encompassing individuals experiencing discomfort or distress regarding their gender. The project questions whether explanations framing these identities as biological “errors” are scientifically justifiable or whether they merely reflect prevailing social norms that seek to regulate identity and the body. Practices aimed at “correcting” the gender of newborns or intervening during late stages of fetal development can be understood as metaphors for societal and capitalist pressures on individuals, distorting natural balance, constraining aspirations, and affecting the human connection to self and nature.
